Fall Outfit Planning (Part One)

I don't know about you guys, but I have NOT been inspired by fashion recently.  I don't know if it is because I haven't been shopping a lot, if the weather is goofs, if I am just feeling busy/tired and it is not top priority, or if I have gained a couple lbs.  Maybe all of the above.  To get inspired like always, I need to outfit plan!  I don't always wear the exact outfits I plan, but it gets me thinking.  I'm not sure if you guys like these posts (I know my Mom does) so don't worry, house posts will be back in a few days.

I wear the same clothes year round.  I know many of my friends with have their summer clothes in their closet, and then their winter clothes in bins in their basement.  I keep everything where I can see it all times!  The pieces I wear on a 105 degree day could be worn on a negative 10 degree day, but layered differently.  I do usually get a few new tops or accessories each season to keep me going, but otherwise it is all fair game!  Let the outfit planning begin!

One thing I just discovered in my closet were these purple skinnies!  They got lost under a pile of unworn jeans so sometimes it is good to outfit plan to find hidden gems!  I love colored pants with more basic tops or cardigans.  Adds a touch of whimsy and fun!  I also wear these Target Long and Lean tanks like blouses, almost everyday.  Sorry I'm not sorry.

It is VERY hard for me to invest in an expensive clothing item.  One that I fully regret not investing in was the sparkly skirt from J Crew last year (or was it 2 years ago??).  I remember thinking how cute it was but that I wouldn't really wear it.  I was so wrong!!  This picture (which I cannot find the source of) is one of my absolute favorites and I have been wanting to recreate this forever!

I do have this Francesca's skirt that is cute, but not as cute as this skirt I should have invested in.  Here it is with heels.

Top:  J Crew Factory, Skirt: Francesca's, Heels; Steve Madden, Necklace: gift

And here it is with boots (no, I am not pregs.  Just haven't been working ever).

Most of what I wear seems to be casual.  I love me some casual outfits.  I do think casual outfits can be just as cute as more fashion forward clothing!  If I see a fun hoodie or tshirt that isn't very expensive, I often will impulse buy because that stuff gets worn!

Everything:  Target

One thing I struggle with being tall (where my tall girls at?) is balance.  That is another reason I like taking pictures, so I can take a look at the full effect and make sure I'm not too far off.  I love the look of wide leg pants but they can be hard to pull off when you are a giant.

Blouse: Forever 21, Pants: NY&Co, Belt: Banana Republic

Random outfit - no, I don't take pics and plan my jammies, but these new pants are too good not to share with my tall friends!  I LOVE pajama pants but basically never in my life do they come in long lengths (I prefer a 35-57" inseam).  I decided to take a peak at Long Tall Sally and saw they had some!  I mean, these are PRICEY for pajama pants, but since they might be the first in my life that are long enough they were worth every penny!  We are going to Chicago soon and I am excited to show these to my SIL as we both have a love for comfy/cute pants.  Even though she will see it here first I am sure.

The other pair I ordered will be in Fall Outfit Planning Part 2 (currently in washer).

The Very Jane cardi that I ordered came!  It fits well, but the fabric is NOT my favorite.  I probably wouldn't have purchased had I felt the fabric before ordering, but I do think it looks nice and will be a good mix and match piece.  I pulled out the pics of the model that sold the outfit to me and tried recreating her cuteness.  Key word: try.

This is what my face usually looks like in these pics.  hence why I crop it out.

Chim LOVES when I do outfit planning.  She tries to snuggle in all the piles.

My everyday uniform is usually a cardi, big necklace, some sort of tank or T under, and whatever pants are clean/don't have obscene amounts of animal hair on them.  I probably wear that at least 4 days a week. I know you saw quite a bit of those outfits when Lindsey lived in town and we would do my fashion posts (or this necklace post).  I just love it because every single piece is mix and match and can be worn endless ways!  Like take for instance these pieces in the pic below.  I have had them all for a while and never once worn together!

Cardi: Loft, Tank: Target, Necklace: Francesca's, Skinnies: Alloy

Clearly this is my favorite shirt.  I think it has been on the blog as much as the pups!  I kept it on when I took pics in the outfit with the sequin skirt and made my best Fall attempt at layering.  This shirt can do no wrong in my eyes.

Cardigan: Limited, Shirt: J Crew Factory, Necklace: Urban Outfitters, Skinnies: Alloy, Boots: Steve Madden

My favorite brand of jeans are MiH, as I know I have referenced many times before!  This pair is in the color Dazy, and one of my favorites!  One of the problems with certain fabrics of the MiH jeans is because of the cute cut, they can make you feel like a busted can of biscuits (my friend Amber and I both feel this way in certain MiH jeans).  But we suck it in and wear them because we love them!

Top: Von Maur, Jeans: MiH

Awkward booty shot but I love how MiH jeans look from the side.  Such a cute cut!

I know this Old Navy sweater was EVERYWHERE last year, but I am pretty sure I will wear it forever!  It is cute and super comfy, washes well, and can be worn with anything.  Win!

Sweater: Old Navy, Jeans: MiH, Moccasins: Minnetonka

One of the few pieces I have recently purchased to spruce up my wardrobe was this Old Navy sequin top.  I love that it is so versatile!  It looks cute with work pants, jeans, under blazers, on it's own, and much more to be discovered.  And yes, I realize almost everything I own needs ironed.  They typically won't get ironed unless my Mom is in town...

Top: Old Navy, Necklace: Stella and Dot, Jeans: J Brand

I posted this picture on Instagram because I need help!  I am obsessed with these Aztec leggings from Target - they are long enough for me, made of the softest material ever, and were only $12.99!  Think they can ever be work appropriate (for a work that allows you to be a little more creative than most places of work)?  Regardless, I know they will get lots of use this Fall and Winter!

Chimi loves them just as much as me!

Well that was Part One!  The reason I say Part One is I have a load of stuff in the washer that I wanted to style and photograph to give me options to wear when I am scrambling to get ready in the morning.  I hope I am motivated once they are clean and dry!

What pieces are you loving for Fall?

Follow me on Facebook!

  1. Love your blog! I'm a fellow tall girl (5'11"!) and just wanted to tell you - you have to check out Old Navy's tall section (online). I buy probably 90% of my clothes there - even extra long PJ pants! And I love those Target leggings! Now I want to go check my Target too!

    1. OMG! I need to check that out! Do you know the inseam for their "tall"? I might be slow, but didn't see it on the page. Yay!!

  2. Their inseams for tall are usually 36" I believe. Clothes are designed for 5'10" and above. If you hold your cursor over Women towards the top of their website, you will see a drop down of two choices, either Petite or Tall. I especially love their Rockstar Skinny jeans!

  3. Found your blog through instagram. Can't wait to read more, as home decorating, and finding cute clothes at a reasonable price are right up my alley!

  4. I love how you lay out your clothes before school/work. :) Love, your mama
